Pune Municipal Corporation puts its foot down; new owners say they have lost some documents, but declare that the joint will be thrown open by Feb 24

The reopening date of the famed German Bakery is still unknown as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is standing firm on its order to not allow the eatery to reopen without Structural Stability Report (SSR) and sanctioned plan.

The municipal corporation officials visited the bakery a couple of days ago to take a look at the on-going renovations and asked the owners to submit all relevant papers. On the other hand, the bakery owners say that they have most of the documents, but have lost some. They claim that the reopening will take place by February 24.

"The SSR report was made three months after blasts rocked the bakery on February 13, 2010," said Vijay Shewale, owner of German Bakery. "We had sent a copy to the police and the state PWD department. We are trying to get it back from them."

"A copy of completion certificate and SSR is a must. Three years is a long time and the German Bakery owners should have done it much earlier," said Vivek Kharwadkar, Additional City Engineer, PMC. u00a0
