1 dead, 5 injured in bus-tree collision

A young woman, identified as Lakshmi Amma, died after the bus she was travelling in collided with tree after glancing off a divider, close to Baidera Halli gate near Magadi road yesterday evening.

The bus, belonging to a private operator, was en route to Gollarhatti from Tollgate circle in Magadi Road when the mishap occurred.

Among the 25 passengers in the bus, five other persons, including two women sustained severe injuries. They were rushed to Sri Lakshmi multi-specialty hospital within minutes of the crash. One passenger identified as Ravi, who is said to be in a critical condition, was taken to NIMHANS.

Dharmaraj (50), who broke a leg and was in shock, said, "I don't know what happened. I didn't even know we hit a tree."

Another passenger, Shobha J, a garment factory employee, who sustained injuries to her left arm, said, "The driver was going too fast and I was sitting just behind him so I realized he was going to hit the tree."

Avinash Gondikara, resident doctor at Sri Lakshmi Hospital, said, "The ambulances reached them within 15 minutes of the crash. No one here is critically injured, except for Ravi who sustained major head injuries." He added, "Most victims have lacerations all over their bodies and a few have broken bones."
