Brace yourself for a blast of B-town productions on the small screen as the clock strikes ten

The tide is certainly reversing, even when it comes to the tube. Bollywood filmmakers are turning to the good ol' television, and we hope we're getting rid of the K-clan soaps forever. Latest on the idiot box is 'Specials @ 10', a series that'd showcase the cinematic expertise of ace directors Anurag Kashyap, Mahesh Manjrekar, Madhur Bhandarkar and Vikram Bhatt. We raise the curtain for the prime time run that begins today.

Rajuben by Anurag Kashyap

Every Monday

The maverick director returns to telly after a decade. He once used to be a small screen playwright. "It's a brilliant idea, because people are bored of watching reality shows and long soaps on the television. A 12-episode series like this helps in attracting the audience's attention," said Kashyap. His show Rajuben is about the transformation of a girl from a doting daughter to a dreaded underworld don, a la Godmother. Co-directed by Lalit Marathe, the series is produced by Shivender Singh Dungarpur, a leading ad filmmaker. Amit Trivedi, the man behind Emosanal Atyaachar (Dev D) once again sits on the music composer's seat, so you know what to expect. Shilpa Shukla aka Bindiya of Chak De! India plays the title role.
Har Kadam Par Shaque by Mahesh Manjrekar

Every Tuesday
Manjrekar himself started his career as a TV actor before he turned director. His series, called Har Kadam Par Shaque, is a whodunit murder mystery set in Kasauli. A builder Tanejau00a0plans of converting the sleepy hill station into an international tourist hub; some are in favour, and others oppose the development. A series of murders follows. The serial stars Amit Behl, Achla Sachdev and Priya Bapat, and is directed by Mukul Abhyankar. Expect thrills and chills in his signature style.
Shuruat, Nafrat Aur Showbiz by Vikram Bhatt

Every Wednesday
His first television project being 'Mere Saath Chal' with Pooja Bhatt in 1992, Bhatt is now all set for his second innings. "I feel television, today, is more popular than films, and the film industry heavily relies on the small screen. Despite the saas-bahu sagas, it has given us amazing reality shows, too," explained the director, whose show is about the journey of an innocent small-town girl, Sara, who steps into the glamorous world of modelling, films and superstardom. Co-directed by Sanjay Khanna, it stars Radhika Menon, Dilip Thadeshwar, Murli and Sanjay Swaraj. Fashion-inspired, is he?
Heroine - Zindagi Ke Panno Se by Madhur Bhandarkar

Every Thursday
Bhandarkar's fictional episodic tells the story of 12 commanding women from different strata of society. Ashok Pandit will direct three episodes, and popular TV directors Ravi Rai, Ashwini Chaudhary (of Dhoop fame), Sanjay Chhel (of Khoobsurat), Shrabani Deodhar and Suhail Tatari will also be pitching in. Roopkumar Rathod has composed the title-track for this series, which includes Rupa Ganguli, Purbi Joshi, Sai Deodhar, Neena Gupta, Divya Seth and Sumeet Raghavan as cast members.
