Alas! The strange world our children have inherited. They can't tell a sunflower from a marigold but can smoke out a fake Barbara from a Barbie. But hope continues to exist. A two-day workshop comes to the rescue.

The '100 things to do with Genda Phool' workshop will teach simple and fun things one can do with marigold flowers. Aimed to rope in youngsters aging eight to 18, it is part of the Genda Phool Project that has been fighting to save the three main flower markets of Delhi from being shifted to Ghazipur.

"Since marigold is one of the integral and popular flowers of our country, we choose it as a symbol of our protest and expression," says Himanshu Verma of Redearth India, one of the main forces behind the movement.

The activities are easy and straightforward. For example, 'singing the genda phool,' is crooning songs related to the flower, be it folk numbers or popular Bollywood numbers like sasural genda phool fromu00a0 Sonam Kapoor-starrer Delhi 6. Participants can also try their hand at games like aiming and potting the flowers in an earthen pot.

Those with an artistic bent of mind can learn the art of organic painting, gulaal, rangoli and garland-making.
