Another major BJP leader, Gopal Shetty, was arrested in Borivli. Republican Party of India (A) Chief Ramdas Athavale was arrested from Bandra-Kurla Complex for trying to instigate protestors. As a precautionary measure the police had detained 237 people.
The protestors damaged around 101 vehicles, mostly BEST buses in the city. Till last night, the police had registered 44 cases related to the bandh. Around 139 protestors were arrested for damaging public property and conducting rasta rokos. An incident of rail roko was reported at Sion.
Apart from the entire Mumbai police force, some 3,200 officers from the Local Arms unit, 25 State Reserve Police platoons, three Rapid Action Force units and three Riot Control units were deployed to tackle untoward incidents.u00a0
