As deadline to raze unauthorised construction ends without any action on part of trust, ball now in civic body's court

The Building Permission Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has finally decided to demolish parts of an illegal structure erected by Chinchechi Talim in Shukrawar Peth on April 18, after the 15-day deadline issued to the trust ended yesterday.

To be pulled down: The unauthorised construction by Chinchechi Talim in Shukrawar Peth has been covered after the PMC issued the ultimatum

On March 29, MiD DAY reported that the well-known gymnasium had erected a structure on encroached land and also reported on PMC's ultimatum to the Talim trust to clear the encroachment on its own within 15 days.

With the deadline ending yesterday and the trust still not heeding the PMC's warning, the corporation will raze the structure on April 18.u00a0Assistant Engineer, Building Permission Department, PMC, Ramesh Waghmare said, "As the talim trust failed to demolish the illegal structure even after receiving an ultimatum notice from us, we have finally decided to hold the demolition drive on April 18 and sent a letter to the Khadak police station to provide us sufficient police force."

The issue came to light when MiD DAY reported on a Shukrawar Peth resident having received a reply to an RTI query from the PMC, stating that the construction undertaken by Chinchechi Talim was encroaching on the road.

When Waghmare was asked why immediate action was not being taken as the 15-day ultimatum has already passed, he said, "We have to coordinate with the police and our staff to hold an anti-encroachment drive."

According to the RTI activist, no further construction is being done and the structure at the disputed site has been covered up.u00a0"We haven't received any letter regarding the drive from PMC officials. But we are ready to provide our force for the drive whenever they ask," PI of Khadak police station, Rajendra Kadam said. u00a0
