Ironically, the incident took place under the nose of the cops near a police post in Dhankawdi
In an uncanny incident, two people were injured as two groups clashed and exchanged fire near a police post in Dhankawdi yesterday.
It's believed that members of Jaynath Mandal and Alishan Group come to blows and the members of Alishan group allegedly opened fire.
Satish Khandare, deputy commissioner of police, said that two persons from Jaynath Mandal identified as Vijay alias Balu Khopde and Pawan Nivangune and one Sagar Benwade from Alishan Group were injured during the fracas.
Nivangune and Khopde were admitted at Bharati hospital, while Benwade was treated at Ruby Hall Clinic.
"The injured members of Jaynath Group, in their statement, have said that a group of about 30 people associated with the Alishan Group attacked them with swords at around 2.45 pm and later opened fire at them," said Khandare.
Meanwhile, Khandare added that Benwade, one of the injured who's believed to be a member of Alishan Group, has received an injury on his head and he has alleged that members of Jaynath Mandal assaulted him with a sharp weapon in the morning.
Whereas, ACP Subhash Dange said that group comprising of Uttam Ghopal, Pappu Ghopal, Vishal Salunke and others from the Alishan Group attacked the Jaynath Mandal.
According to police, the groups have turned rivals after the murder of Santosh Khaire of Alishan Group last year.
