The accused Mohammad Hussain Shaikh, a tailor, was heading to Agripada when at Merchant Chowk, he ignored a traffic signal and crossed the road while the signal was still green during peak hours at 8 pm.u00a0
Constable Sushma Shinde immediately stopped Hussain and told him that he should wait till the signal is red for him to cross. However, instead of listening to the advice given by the official, Hussain pushed her to the ground. Shinde fell to the ground and even sustained minor injuries to her hand.
Vinayak Sawade, senior inspector at Nagpada police station, said, "Hussain was talking on his cell phone and crossing the road, which could lead to a fatal accident. Hence, an alert Shinde warned him of the dangers of his actions. However, Hussain assaulted the constable and even hurled abuses at her."
Hussain has been arrested under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his/her duty) and 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant) of the IPC. He was produced in Mazgaon court on Thursday and remanded to jail custody till September 11. u00a0
