A Jogeshwari woman redefined âentrepreneurial finance' recently after being arrested for stealing cash and valuables worth Rs 2 lakh from her house and filing a sham robbery FIR, all for a cosmetic start-up. She deliberately injured her face and hand to add the reality element to the charade and mislead the police. The entire stunt was allegedly planned to fund a beauty parlour she wished to set up.
On Tuesday, Aparna Inamdar (29) lodged a complaint with the Meghwadi police alleging that two thieves armed with knives had attacked her in her house at Sitabai chawl, Majaswadi, Jogeshwari (East) the day before, and had fled with cash and jewellery worth Rs 2 lakh. She told the police that she suspected her elder brother. When the police detained the brother, Mandar (35), for investigation, he told them that he had been thrown out of the house five years ago due to his drinking habits and had never even visited the area where his family lived.
Mandar was the first to give a hint to the police of foul play by Aparna. Aparna's younger brother and mother were in their village at the time of the incident. Having been tipped off by Mandar, police searched Aparna's house on Wednesday morning and found the cash hidden in the bed and jewellery lying in the kitchen cupboard.
Cops arrested her immediately. She confessed that she had committed the crime to get the money to start a beauty parlour of her own. She was booked her under Sections 452 (house trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 392 (punishment for robbery), 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
"She complained that two robbers looted her at knifepoint and escaped with cash and jewellery worth Rs 2 lakh on Monday evening. She told us that her brother must have had a hand in this. She even hurt herself with a sharp weapon to prove she was robbed. We shall produce her in court on Friday," said inspector Chagan Ingale. "She wanted to start a beauty parlour, which may be a possible reason behind what she did. I cannot say more since I was in our village at the time of the incident," said the mother of the accused.u00a0
