Prime Minister Manmohan Singh dealt suitably with every letter sent to him to sanction the prosecution of then communications minister A Raja on the alleged second generation (2G) spectrum scam, the Supreme Court was informed on Saturday in an affidavit, and sought to set the record straight on a political storm.

Singh assured the nation that no one found guilty of any wrongdoing in allocation of 2G spectrum would be spared, and appealed to political parties to allow the Parliament to function.

"I can state that various aspects of this are being looked into by the respective investigating agencies in their domain of interest," he said in a question-answer session at a leaders' summit in New Delhi. This response on steps taken by the Prime Minister to examine allegations of a scam in the award of 2G spectrum will be used by the government when the matter comes up for hearing in the Supreme Court Tuesday, official sources said.
Meanwhile, BJP president Nitin Gadkari said the PM had given the DMK "full freedom" to "loot the country" as part of "the deal with the Congress over the pricing of 2G spectrum", referring to the spectrum scam that led to DMK MP A. Raja resigning as communications minister.

DMK chief M Karunanidhi has said the DMK didn't oppose a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe into the 2G scam but only expressed support to the Centre's stand in Parliament.

Telecom Minister A Raja last Sunday resigned while a report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) on the huge losses to the exchequer (Rs 1.76 lakh crore) was tabled in Parliament.
