Dacoity suspect bangs head on table during routine questioning; cops wonder if it's a new trick adopted by criminals to escape interrogationu00a0
In the second incident of its kind in a month, a suspect inflicted injuries on himself in police custody. The police, who often treat these incidents as cases of attempted suicide, are now wondering whetheru00a0 such actions may be a new trick criminals have adopted to escape interrogation.
Kismatsingh Ramsingh Bhada (24) of Dhule, a suspect in several dacoities, reportedly attempted suicide by smacking his head on a table on Tuesday night while undergoing interrogation at the Hadapsar police station.
Bhada was arrested along with dreaded gang leader Arjunsingh Dudhani (28) and a third accomplice, Ujalasingh Prabhusingh Tak (19), for dacoities at several petrol pumps, vehicle thefts, a bank robbery and an ATM theft.
Police Inspector B K Chavan from the Hadapsar police station said there was no provocation for Bhada to have behaved the way he did and that it was a general interrogation that was on. The inspector said Bhada began hurting himself 15 minutes into the session.
"After a short series of questions, Bhada hit his head on the corner of the table and injured himself. He was unreasonably obstinate and was not giving proper response to our questions," said Chavan. "The detection team was questioning him about his partners and their yet-undiscovered activities to get hold of the bigger fish behind the dacoities. There is no question in particular which the inspector remembers that could have forced Bhada to bang his forehead on the table corner."
It is not the first time that Bhada has done such a thing.
"He always does this to escape interrogation. We have come to know that he did same when was in the custody of the Thane Rural Police," said Chavan. "The sole intention of Bhada was to distract the attention of the police from the case and questions. It is possible that he was trying to put the blame of manhandling on the police as he was remanded in police custody from November 7 to 12 by the court."
