37 worker unions support Bharat Bandh, ask for rise in wages

Thirty-seven worker unions ufffd including Bank Federation, Maharashtra Nurses Federation and State Revenue Employee's Organisation ufffd held a morcha at the District Collector office yesterday in support of the nation-wide Bharat Bandh called by trade unions against anti-labour policies of the government.


The morcha began at Workers Commissionrate (Kamgar Ayuktalaya) in Shivaji Nagar where over 1,000 workers from government sectors participated in the march. The unions demanded a rise in wages due to ever-rising inflation.u00a0

However, road transport and medical services remained unaffected. Only all nationalised banks in the city were closed for two days.u00a0

"As it was a bank holiday on February 19 due to Shiv Jayanti, the banks were closed for three days. We loaded around Rs 3 crore in 40 ATM centres and I don't think citizens would have faced any problems," said a representative of Bank Employee Federation of India. u00a0
