Even though it is illegal for taxi and auto drivers to refuse commuters, every day, passengers often have to endure their rejection and the trouble of finding someone who would ply them to their respective destination. Often, commuters have to endure the insult of taxis and auto drivers just zipping past commuters, altogether ignoring them. And in an attempt to curb this practice, the traffic police started a month-long drive in September to nab the errant taxi and auto drivers.

Officialspeak
"We want to curb this practice where taxi and auto drivers refuse passengers. In other major cities like Singapore and New York, there are hardly any instances of refusal. We will soon be meeting the respective unions to address this issue," said Pratap Dighavkar, deputy commissioner of police (Traffic).
