Hasan Mohammed who came to Pune on a student visa 19 years ago, and continued his illegal stay since then, will be deported to SudanHasan Mohammed, a Sudanese national who came to Pune on a student visa 19-years-ago will be deported to Sudan by the authorities on April 4. The authorities are also questioning the college administration on his illegal stay and continued registration for the same course.
"The case of Mohammed, a 42-year-old 'student' of a city college has baffled the Foreigners' Registration Office (FRO), which has served a notice on him to leave the country," said Bhanupratap Barge, a police inspector attached to the FRO.
Mohammed is at present enrolled for third year BA course in the college. "We have asked the college authorities to explain the basis of his continued illegal stay since his arrival in the city in 1990," Barge said. He added that a student's visa is issued for one year and needs to be renewed with proper authentication during the period of education of the foreign national.
Barge, however, said that police prima facie did not think that Mohammed was involved in any anti-social activity during his illegal stay.
Mohammed may have stayed on in India owing to the political instability back home, Barge said adding that he was also running a makeshift hotel to cater to African students in the college.u00a0
