For more than 100 days after the formation of the UPA government, about 70 MPs have been staying at Samrat Hotel in Chanakyapuri. They are waiting to move into their official residences.
And the bill for their hotel stay is a whopping Rs 3.78 crore. According to sources, the government has negotiated to pay the hotel, owned by the Ministry of Tourism, Rs 4,500 a day per room instead of the regular Rs 9,000.
Some MPs have even mentioned their hotel room number on the Central government information website, https://www.sarkaritel.com/
The website mentions the Delhi address of Congress MP from UP Jagdambika Pal as 268, Samrat Hotel.
"They are not enjoying it. Many MPs are finding it difficult to even offer a cup of tea tou00a0 visitors because of high costs," said Sanjeev Singh, Congress worker.
