Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from the Kondli constituency in Delhi, Manoj Kumar, has been detained over a case of land fraud and has been sent to two-day police custody by the court
New Delhi: In an embarrassment to the Delhi government, AAP legislator Manoj Kumar was on Thursday arrested on charges of cheating and forgery, police said.
Manoj Kumar, elected from Kondli, was taken into custody in a case of alleged land grab.
He has seven cases against him, including one of assault, a police officer told IANS.
Manoj Kumar is among the 21 Aam Aadmi Party legislators against whom Delhi Police have reportedly decided to file chargesheets in connection with criminal cases registered against them in the national capital.
These 21 include Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who faces three cases, as well as Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Speaker Ram Niwas Goel.
Senior lawyer H.S. Phoolka on Thursday said that Manoj Kumar has been sent to two-day police remand by the Delhi Court.
"He (Manoj Kumar) kept going to the police whenever they called him. The police today asked for his remand, saying that he is not cooperating in the investigation procedure. So, I asked the court to show me a single notice that says we haven't cooperated," he told the media here.
"We further told the court that this is a very biased kind of investigation from the police. He was arrested without any prior notice. The police was asking for seven days of remand, but the court has given remand of only two days," he added.
