A nine-year-old boy, who had been kidnapped recently from Delhi, was found dead in Meerut. The boy, Chetan, was kidnapped from Kalyanpuri area on January 2 following which the family members had lodged an FIR. The family had received ransom calls which were traced to Meerut in Uttar Pradesh.
Representative picPolice said that the victim's family had paid the ransom of Rs 40,000 to the kidnappers. "The family member who had gone to Meerut said that he was called to Nauchandi Ground to deliver the ransom. When he reached there, evening was setting in and he saw a shadow behind a building and heard a voice of a woman asking him to put the ransom amount on the ground and go back.
He claimed that the woman's face was not visible as she was standing in the dark but as he moved forward, the shadow disappeared in darkness without taking the money," a police officer said.
Later, the police received information from their Meerut counterparts that a body of a child was found on January 15. Investigations led the cops to a relative of the victim.
"We found that Devi Ram, a relative of the deceased, was involved in the incident. Ram was under heavy debt so he had planned to kidnap the child for ransom but fear of getting arrested made him kill the child. We arrested the accused from Delhi on Tuesday and are interrogating him further," the officer added.
