High Court directs insurance companies to settle matters within four months
Families of those who died in road accidents will now getu00a0 monetary compensation within four months from insurance companies, thanks to the Delhi High Court.
While issuing directions to all involved partiesu00a0-- Delhi police, state government and insurance companies, the Delhi High Court on Monday directed the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) and insurance companies to settle accident claims within four months of the incident.
Though the process will be initiated on trial basis for initial six months, the court appointed representatives from all the concerned departments to assure speedy disbursal of the compensation claims.u00a0u00a0
Justice JR Midha said, "It is agreed by the Delhi police that the implementation of the Claims Tribunal Agreed Procedure shall commence from January 15, 2010 and the same shall tentatively remain in force for a period of six month upto July 14, 2010."
The court also asked the government as well as Delhi Legal Services Authority (DLSA) to give enough publicity to the matter so that aggrieved people can take benefits.
The court asked the government to direct its hospitals to provide MLC and post-mortem report to the police within 15 days. A committee has also been formed by the court to look into the cases to solve the issues and implement the order.
