The police said they were astonished by the accident as the road had only a 15-degree curve at the spot and was wide enough. They said it was the first accident they knew of at that spot.
Traffic Police Inspector Ashok Kumar said, "We can't imagine how an accident happened at the spot because there is no chance of this kind of a head-on collusion there. We have no record of such accidents at the spot in the past."
Soumya was severely injured and was taken to M S Ramaiah hospital but was declared brought dead.
Soumya was a meritorious student and had secured 81 per cent marks in her previous semester; she was waiting for the remaining six months to her graduation to get over even as she was elated at having got a job in leading software firm CTS Information Technology.
