Authorities say situation can get out of hand on last day of engineering form submission
The Application Receiving Centres (ARC) for engineering forms across the city wore a deserted look over the weekend and yesterday. The state Directorate of Technical Education had extended the last date for form submission to July 6 after thousands of students were unable to submit their forms because the collector's office failed to provide them with domicile, income and caste certificates.
Officials at the collector's office had assured students all necessary certificates would be provided by July 5.u00a0
Those working at the ARCs now fear that the situation that occurred on Thursdayu00a0 ufffd the police lathi-charged the crowd of students and parents as they demanded a meeting with the collector ufffd might arise today as well.
"We hardly had any students since Friday. We fear there will be a chaos on Tuesday," said Maithili Arjunnedkar, incharge of ARC, Modern College Engineering.
Prof S N Navale, centre in-charge from SSPMS, said, "After the date was extended, we thought weekend will have maximum crowd but that didn't happen. As Monday was a bandh we received just six applications."
Officials were even working on Sunday to clear out all forms received till July 30.
"We will give out all certificates by maximum Tuesday morning," said Dr Jayshree Katare, SDO, collector's office.
