Kolkata:, Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Pal was on Tuesday admitted in a super speciality hospital in Kolkata after suffering a brain stroke, hospital sources said.

"He (Pal) was brought to the hospital at 4 pm. An MRI was conducted and it was found that he has suffered a brain stroke. He has been admitted in ICCU and is under 72-hour observation by the doctors," Belle Vue Hospital official P Tandon said.

Earlier in July, Pal (55) was admitted to the same hospital after a sudden spurt in his blood pressure.

The actor-turned-Trinamool Congress -- one of the biggest names in Bengali films for over three decades -- haas been in the news recently after being caught on camera threatening to gun down his Marxist rivals and "unleash his boys for raping" women.

Pal shot into the limelight in 1980 by playing the title role in the blockbuster comedy "Dadar Kirti (The exploits of Dada (or elder brother))". Since then he has acted in a large number of movies spread over nearly three and a half decades, playing the hero and lately settling for character roles. Some of his famous films are "Abodh" (Hindi) and Bengali hits "Pothbhola", "Bhalobasa Bhaloibasa" and "Saheb".
