The proposal was pending with the transport body for the last three years. The new service will commence from November 1.
On a daily basis, at least 10,000 commuters travel to Mumbai by Volvo and alight at Thane, Borivli and Dadar. Several commuters from Kothrud had demanded that Volvo service to Dadar should be start from Swargate bus depot, as they had to travel all the way to Shivajinagar or Pune railway station to avail the bus service.
A total of 16 trips would be carried out between Swargate and Dadar from 7 am to 10 pm daily. Swargate Depot Manager Vijay Divate said, "There is a huge demand for Pune-Mumbai Shivaneri service and is considered as the most profitable route.
Till date, from Swargate, Volvos were available only for Thane and Borivli. Locals wanting to travel to Dadar wither went to Pune station or Shivajinagar. For the last three years, we have been demanding commencement of this service from Swargate but due shortage of buses it took time."
