A 38-year-old woman has claimed that her husband forced her to sleep with his friends for seven years and, dreading that he would do the same to their daughter, has written a letter to the police accusing him of the ghastly deed. The mother sent the letter to the deputy commissioner of police, eastern region and the Shivaji Nagar police complaining against her husband, Mohammed Ali Shaikh, for forcing her into prostitution, and threatening to do the same to their 15-year-old daughter.
The complainant in her letter has stated that on May 17 her husband tried to rape their minor daughter. The daughter then lodged a complaint with the police and Shaikh was arrested on attempt to rape charges. Shaikh, after coming out from jail, started searching his family, as the mother with her four children - two girls and two boys - had moved to Mulund.
When the accused found them, the mother was certain that he would try to rape their daughter again and force her into prostitution as well. Fearing the worst, the woman wrote a letter to the police. The letter also states that she married Shaikh 16 years ago, and that he is a trustee at a school in Govandi.
She told MiD DAY that since the past seven years her husband has been forcing her to have physical relations with his friends and other clients for money, and whenever she refused, he tortured her and even threatened to kill the kids. Shaikh said, "I do not want to comment on the matter. You can talk to my wife, as she has written the letter."
Police confirmed they were investigating the report after having received the letter. "We have received the letter and will arrest Shaikh after investigating the claims in the letter. We are presently recording statements of the victims and a few witnesses," said R S Agarwal, senior inspector at Shivaji Nagar police station.u00a0
