Ahoy
Food: yummy
Service: attentive
Ambience: minimal

Crossing the busy streets of Aundh, we noticed this tiny joint located in a lane. The small open-air eatery's curious name made us do a double take and ahoy, we were on board.

Chicken Parmigiana

We spotted a number of college-going students enjoying their meal in a lazy chilled-out environment. The affordable price of the food and the Continental menu (which isn't available in the vicinity) makes it an instant hit with the tweens. Malika Khanna, the bubbly young owner of the place, was always fond of cooking and the dishes on the menu are the ones that she prepares the best.

You enter through a small gate and the eatery is surrounded by low white walls. There is space to eat outside in the open-air or you can eat inside in the enclosed area beside the counter. The floor is made from granite marble and six tables are laid out for customers. The ambience is easygoing and the d ufffdcor is minimal. It does not really qualify as the perfect place to take your loved one for a chat or a coffee as the view consists of traffic and people passing up and down the road.u00a0

We opted for Chicken Parmigiana (Rs 120), Cold Pasta (Rs 75 for veg and Rs 90 for non-veg), Chilly Sin Carne (Rs 100) and Spinach Alfredo (Rs 90). The Chicken Parmigiana is an Australian dish with a thick pattie of chicken crumbs served with French fries, dry salad and ketchup. The chicken crumbs are fried and salt, pepper and herbs are added. The pattie is soaked in red sauce, topped with cheese and baked. The dish looks highly tempting and tastes equally good. We craved for more but considering our battle with the calories, we gave it a pass.

The Cold Pasta is a light salad, which can be had before your meal or as a side dish during the main course. The veg dish included corn, bell peppers, mayonnaise, herbs and olives. It was slightly sweet, tangy and a bit creamy and crunchy with the mayonnaise blending perfectly with the veggies. My friend tried the Spinach Alfredo, which is Penne pasta with lots of cheese, spinach, jalapenos and olives. The cheese and herbs gave it a nice taste. The quantity of white sauce and cream makes it a heavy dish not recommended for size zero seekers.

The Chilly Sin Carne is a part of the Texas-Mexican (Tex-Mex) cuisine. It has a tomato-based gravy with baked potatoes, sour cream and is topped with mozzarella cheese. It was a bit spicy but also had a tangy taste due to the tomato gravy. The dish is very filling had portions sufficient for two people.

The service is personalised and the dishes are served fast. They help you order food and the owner recommends dishes that can match your taste and the ingredients that are used in making it.
