Despite doing films and television serials, Akshay never quit theatre. He was in the city on Sunday to shoot for an upcoming Marathi film Koknastha.
An alumnus of Lalit Kala Kendra of the University of Pune (UoP), several of Pendse's friends recalled the times they spent with the late actor.
"Though we all graduated from Lalit Kala Kendra, but it was only Akshay from our group who completed graduation and post-graduation in dramatics to pursue his dream to become an actor," Mukta Barve, a leading Marathi actress, said.

Pendse completed his BA and MA in theatre from Lalit Kala Kendra between 1997 and 2002. "Amol Palekar's Kairi was Akshay first film in which he played the lead role. While pursuing PG, he wrote several plays Bhumiticha Farse and Tughlak, among others. He had appeared in famous plays, including Makdacha Hati Shampen and Saasu Mazi Dhasu," Manaswini Lata Ravindra, an upcoming writer, said.
"Akshay recently celebrated his son Pratyush's second birth day at his home in the city On December 9. He was a caring parent and shared a special bond with his son," Mangesh Hadwal said.u00a0
