The guys at Frosty Freddo have come up with imaginative flavours for their ice-creams. Sadly though, the fun ends there
Having grown up in the Sion-Matunga area, after-dinner trips to Seven Eleven (now renamed Just Chill7) were a weekly affair.
As wide-eyed kids, we loved the many machines that squelched out creamy "softies". Then came Naturals and more recently, Hokey Pokey, their fancy flavours and add-ons relegating Seven Eleven to childhood memories.
A hole-in-the-wall ice-cream parlour, Frosty Freddo opened a fortnight ago in the same area, but we doubt it's going to be stiff competition.

With simply a counter and a small space to make more elaborate desserts, you are forced to stand as you dig into your dessert.

The interesting menu cheered us immensely, with as many as 14 unusual flavours. We ordered a Jelly Belly (Rs 20 for a small scoop) that came in those thin wafer cones that we have started to avoid, thanks to its richer cousin, the waffle. The jujubes replaced the jelly but the flavour wasn't half as bad.
What was disappointing was the Raspberry Cheese Cake (Rs 33) ice-cream that tasted nothing like raspberry or cheese cake.
We asked the counter guy what went into The Diet Chunk Say No to Junk (Rs 25), but he looked at us as if he had never even heard of the flavour.
We decided to give it a miss and instead went for the Golden Crown (Ferrero Rocher and Hazelnut for Rs 33) that carried a remote hint of the Ferrero, but ultimately was passable.
We were too disappointed to try the dessert preparations (with brownies, whipped cream et al) and the guys at the counter had started to pack up and were backslapping each other over a shared joke, oblivious of our presence.
We silently tiptoed to Hokey Pokey across the road to soothe our pain and feed our gluttony.
