In a day of high drama, senior lawyer Jethmalani said the bribe to the BJP MPs was paid by Congress leaders
If you think the courtroom dramas in Bollywood flicks are over the top, you should have been at Tis Hazari Courts yesterday. In a day full of twists and turns Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh's counsel Ram Jethmalani made a u-turn and named Congress leader Ahmed Patel as the source for the money in the 2008 cash-for-votes scam. Special Judge Sangita Dhingra Sehgal extended the bail granted to the former Samajwadi Party leader, in custody for alleged involvement in the scam and currently admitted for treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

The court also adjourned till September 20 hearing on the bail plea of former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker Suhail Hindustani, arrested for his involvement in the scam. Hindustani collapsed during the hearing inside the courtroom on Monday and was taken to hospital. The judge adjourned the matter after a two-hour hearing and directed Delhi police to present before the court the CD that bears evidence of the sting operation during the vote of confidence in parliament.
"The whole case is based on that CD. It is to be seen what role Hindustani played. The charge sheet only alleges that active role was played by the accused. However, it does not detail the role," the court said.
Besides, the court has directed BJP leader LK Advani's former aide Sudheendra Kulkarni, a co-accused in the case, to appear before it on September 27 without fail. Kulkarni failed to appear despite his September 6 undertaking to the court.
