Samanter, Sharmila Tagore's first Marathi film, will be released in Pune and Kolkata on Thursday with English subtitles. Actor and director Amol Palekar said that working with Sharmila Tagore had been a memorable experience.
It may be recalled that during the Pune International Film Festival in January this year, Tagore had declared her intention to work in a Marathi film. "Her professionalism and dedication to work at this stage of her career inspired me and the younger lot in our crew," Palekar revealed.
Part of the film was shot at Kalna, a village near Kolkata, and some of it has also been shot in Pune. Palekar plays Keshav Vaze, a successful businessman and Sharmila is Shama Sane, Keshav's love interest.
Describing Sharmila Tagore as a highly cultured, studious, and dedicated artist, Palekar said, "I am a great admirer of Rinku (as Sharmila is called by her friends). She's done some brilliant work with Satyajit Ray and Shakti Samanta. I had worked with her 30 years ago in Mother, a Bengali film. It is great to be working with her again."
Samanter releases in the city on September 3.
