A Pune-based electronics engineer has invented MI Card Money Transaction System, which can reduce the 'chillar' woes faced by commuters while using city transport buses
travelling by public transport, especially during peak hours, is a task of sorts for the average Puneite. And what's most annoying is the fact that each day they have to produce change in packed buses to buy their tickets.
Hence, to relieve commuters of their sufferings, Amit Mahadik, a city-based electronics engineer, has invented MI Card Money Transaction System.
Explaining its features, Mahadik said that there will be a prepaid card and the user will have to recharge it every month. "Unlike the passes issued by the transport body, the card will have a photograph of the user," he said.
Mahadik added that the system would even benefit bus conductors as there won't have to carry money and tickets along.
Speaking about how the system will work, Mahadik said, "As soon as the conductor flashes the card on e-ticketing machine, the user's identification number, available balance, validity of the account and the expiry date of the card will get displayed on the screen.
Then the conductor will have to punch the amount on the keypad and the money will be deducted from his/her prepaid account."
Mahadik claims that the system can even be used to pay mobile phone bills. "If the government adopts this system, one can also pay fines through this card for breaking traffic rules," he maintained.
Mahadik has submitted the project to Pune Municipal Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) for consideration.
