The game, which was introduced to Bangaloreans at the Octoberfest weekend, is touted to create quite a stir amidst the party hearties. Post the Octoberfest, Opus was host to this new fun sport on Sunday night, for the first time in Bangalore. The game will now hit the city pub and lounge bars cicuit.
10 Pong originated in the United States of America with the drinking culture of the Dartmouth College fraternities in the 1950s and 60s, where it became part of the social culture of the campus. It's a simple fun game played by two or four individuals across a lengthwise long table. The table has ten glasses filled with beer u00be full set up on either side in a triangle formation. Each player throws a ping-pong ball across the table with the goal of landing the ball in the beer cup on the other end. Every time the ball lands in the opponent's cup, he drinks the beer from that mug. The goal? Yes, you guessed it right o eliminate the other teams' glasses before your own. Sounds whoopee, does it?
Pradeep Chatur, the man behind 10 Pong in India says, "This game is intended to make parties fun and interesting and also a lot more funnier way to get drunk." This is being promoted as another kind of entertainment to parties apart from the usual song and dance. Infact, forget song and dance, you can't even dance much in Bangalore.
On the cards is 10 Pong Outback which will be played behind the stages in parties where the DJ console is located. Pradeep says, "It will be something like a back stage VIP area to hang out." The next cities on the list where 10 Pong will be introduced are Pune, Mumbai, New Delhi and Kolkata.
Freeman White along with his wife Joanna Oput from the US, who we caught putting at the game said, "It is primarily a University sport and now very popular as a party game. Over there a team keeps playing on and on with the idea being to hold the table. It's not easy to keep the aim while getting drunk and that's where the fun lies."
In the US, this game is known as Beer Pong or Beirut. Tournaments are also held at the local, regional, and national levels with cash prizes upto $50,000.
