An anganwadi worker has been allegedly gangraped with the police rounding up three of the accused at Bhandaripokhari in Orissa's Bhadrak district.
Police said on Thursday the 45-year-old widow was returning to Jagannathprasad, about 25 km from here, after a rally on the evening of April 6 when the incident happened. The mother of two first got a bus to Chhatabar, about 20 km from here, and was waiting for another vehicle when she was offered lift by a motorcyclist who took her to a lonely place and was joined by four friends who allegedly gangraped her and snatched her gold necklace.
Traumatised after the nightmare the woman lodged a police complaint several days after the incident, police said explaining the delay in arrests, police said. Efforts were on to trace the other two accused who were still at large.
Anganwadi is a government-sponsored child-care and mother-care programme to combat malnutrition.
