On World Gaming Day, over 10 million gamers will compete for hefty prize money
Ten million gamers, one day of hectic mind-games and a prize of Rs 3 crore!
On February 12, around 10 million Indian gamers will celebrate the World Gaming Day (WGD) by participating in the country's biggest gaming event ever. Gamers from all genres will be contesting on console, online and mobile platforms for the hefty prize money.
However, for hardcore gamers, the lucrative prize is not the only attraction. For them it is a god-send opportunity to showcase their skills. The top 10 winners will also get a chance to play a game or two with the cast of the latest Bollywood flick Luck by Chance.
Gaming happy
Gamers couldn't have been happier. Nilesh Sharma, a Delhi University student and an avid gamer said, "The Indian gaming industry is evolving very fast and Delhi has hosted various gaming events. It is the hub of gamers. The World Gaming Day will bring gamers of all genres together and also educate new gamers."
Similarly, Sudakshina Rathore, a regular online gamer, said, "I was waiting for the World Gaming Day for a long time. Finally we have the Indian version with such a huge prize money. All my online gaming friends have already registered for the event."
Big, biggerThe event, being organised by Sony Ericsson in collaboration with gaming portal zapak.com and Microsoft's popular console XBOX 360, will draw participants from more than 30 Indian cities. It will be launched by actor Aftab Shivdasani on February 5 in Delhi and the finals will be held on February 12 in Mumbai.
"Every gamer, be it on the console, Internet or mobile phone can participate," said Zapak CEO Rohit Sharma.
