Join Padmashri Kathak danseuse Shovana Narayan as she celebrates 30 years of her music and dance institute Asavari with the LalitArpan festival
There's no talking Kathak without Shovana Narayan. The veteran is now set to present the annual LalitArpan festival, which is a cultural treat for followers of all sorts of classical art. The affair aims to pay tribute to The Almighty through the medium of music and dance. Here's what's in store at this two-day gala.
Mighty mix
Shovana's school, Asavari, has just completed 30 years, so this year, it's going to be grander than ever. You can look forward to performances by Shruti Gupta Chandra, Salil Bhatt on the Satvik Veena, Pt Ram Kumar Mishra on the Tabla, Mahavir and Mohit Gangani and Varun, Shivani Salhotra performing Kathak and brothers Rajnish-Ritesh Mishra at vocals. Young artistes will also get a chance to prove their prowess.
Krishna connection
The festival will also see an array of dance performances on interesting themes. Madhura Phataka, a senior disciple of Narayan, will be presenting an interesting tale of love and sacrifice through her performance. "I will be showcasing Krishna-Radha love, as seen through the eyes of Radha. Her unflinching devotion towards Krishna resulted in a new era of sacrifice and faith. The act will be set against the backdrop of the popular 18th century Haveli sangeet," signs off the performer.
