A 65-year-old man died, after officials at Malwani police station, allegedly made the injured man wait for over two hours. The police asked deceased Sayyed Gazi Shaikh to come to the police station, after his neighbour, Yaseen Shaikh filed a complaint against him over a brawl.
According to Sayyed's daughter, Tanvar Gazi Shaikh (25) her father died due to the negligence of the police when he was asked to wait at the station for over two hours. "My father had head injuries and he was made to wait at the police station in that condition," she said.
The deceased Sayyed and his neighbour's family were fighting over the entrance to the latter's house. "Yaseen Shaikh's family constructed an illegal house on mangroves just behind our house. They wanted us to give them a passageway but my father did not agree," said Tanvar.
Tanvar further added that at around 9 on Sunday night, Yaseen and his wife Yasmin along with their son Sameer barged into their Malwani residence and beat up her father with rods. Sayyed later approached the police to file a case against them.
However, police officials filed a non-cognizable offence report and asked Sayyed to go in for a medical check up since he had visible head injuries. Meanwhile, Yasmin lodged a complaint against Sayyed alleging that he attacked her with a blade.
"At around 1 am the police asked my father to come to the station and registered a cross case against both the parties. They made him wait for two hours. He collapsed when he returned home at around 3 in the night.
We rushed him to the hospital, where he was declared dead," Tanvar said. The police officers have not lodged a case of murder against the neighbours and are awaiting the post mortem reports.
Jaywant Hergude, assistant commissioner of police (Malwani) said, "We are conducting enquiries and if police negligence is proved, we will take action against the concerned officers." u00a0
