Investigations into the attack on Anti-Corruption Branch Police Inspector Bharat Bhosale has revealed that it was a "revenge act" by a criminal on police record, whose mother and sister were allegedly abused by the victim 13 years ago in Sangli.

The suspect Deepak Kalgonda Patil (32) from Sangli. One of his accomplices was Ganesh Vasant Wadekar (31) from Malojinagar in Phaltan near Satara. "Patil works as a recovery agent for a credit society and is also a real-estate agent in Sangli," said PI (Crime) Suryakant Kamble from the Swargate police station.

Kamble said Patil had been arrested in a rioting case in 1998. "Bhosale was posted in Sangli as a sub-inspector when he had arrested the suspect Patil. Patil's mother and sister came to give him homemade food. Bhosale allegedly abused his mother and sister then. Patil then vowed to take revenge," Kamble said. "After attacking Bhosale, both the suspects left for Sangli the same night. They were traced with the help of mobile tower location."

The suspect's mobile number was available, as he had previously called Bhosale.
"I don't remember having arresting anyone by the name of Patil. Thirteen years is a long time," Bhosale said.
