Employees of Navayuga, the company that was awarded theu00a0 contract to man the toll gate on the Airport Road, are living in constant fear.

Even since the Pro-Kannada activists ransacked the toll station, following the death of an employee under the wheels of a private tourist bus, staff members are on pins.

Also,u00a0with the intervention of the state government, collection of toll by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has been stopped.

Besides, out of the 300 employees who worked at the toll gate, 100 have left the company fearing another attack.

"After much planning by our director, we are facing a loss of about of over Rs 2 crore. Now our employees are fleeing," said Administration Officer P C Charmanna.

He and other employees tried to pacify the mob during the incident, but their efforts were in vain. "The mob easily outnumbered us since were few in number and things could have taken a turn for the worse," he said.

Pay no toll

Toll was being collected for vehicles heading to the BIAL and Hyderabad. Plans were also in the pipeline to introduce a smart card system.

Meanwhile, PWD Minister C M Udasi told this reporter that no toll will be collected till all provisions of the agreement are met.
