Autorickshaw driver assaulted

Last night around 11.45 pm, a bunch of drunk people who had just come out of a party at one of the pubs had a quarrel among themselves on Brigade Road junction in which an autorickshaw driver was beaten up.

Last night around 11.45 pm, a bunch of drunk people who had just come out of a party at one of the pubs had a quarrel among themselves on Brigade Road junction in which an autorickshaw driver was beaten up.

The driver Aijaz (30), a resident of K G Halli, who was at the Brigade Road junction at the time of the incident, was hit on his head with a stone and started bleeding.

Aijaz (30), an auto driver, was bashed up by a group of boys who were allegedly drunk at Brigade Road last night.

"I saw a few Manipuri boys who were quarrelling on the road. I parked my auto there and asked them not to fight," said Aijaz.

"One of them was holding a stone in his hand. He hit me on my head with that stone and I started bleeding."

A police jeep that was patrolling nearby came to the rescue of the auto driver. The police officials booked a case against both of them. Later, the auto driver was taken to Bowring Hospital for treatment.

"Such small incidents are common during the night and we have a tough time especially in the night during the deadline hour. We have booked a complaint," said a police officer on night patrol.
