Security tightened in millennium city and neighbouring areas
Gurgaon stands divided, only for safety reasons. At a high-level meeting called by the district administration, authorities decided to tighten security in the area ahead of the Ayodhya verdict and to divide Gurgaon into 8 zones depending on population density.
"The control room has been put on high alert and quick reaction team (QRT) and PCR has been placed at strategic locations," said a senior police officer.
u00a0On September 23, a low-intensity blast damaged five rooms of a Gurukul Ashram in Nuh of Mewat district, on the outskirts of Gurgaon. The Ayodhya verdict was expected the next day, before it was postponed.
"The blast could have been an attempt to provoke religious violence as it occurred just before the Ayodhya verdict. To avoid such incidents we have beefed up security in Mewat. As a precautionary measure, public rallies and demonstrations will be banned. Strict action will be taken against persons if they are found involved in pasting provocative posters," said a senior police officer.
Paramilitary forces have been summoned. Police have been asked to be more vigilant at places of worship.
"District Police Superintendents have been asked to take necessary precautionary measures after evaluating the situation in different regions," said Deputy Commissioner of Mewat C R Rana.
Mewat has a sizable population of a minority community. So police personnel are on high alert, fearing law and order problems ahead of the Ayodhaya verdict. The district administration has asked all communities to maintain peace.
