The world's biggest miner, BHP Billiton, said on Wednesday it would cut around 6,000 jobs because of the global economic downturn.
BHP chief financial officer Alex Vanselow described the cuts, from its workforce of 41,000 employees and 60,000 contractors, as a 'very serious' response to the deteriorating economic environment.
