Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal hit back at the home affairs ministry's notification asserting the Lt. Governor's power in public order and services issues, saying the BJP-led NDA government was rattled because of AAP's good work
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday hit back at the home affairs ministry's notification asserting the Lt. Governor's power in public order and services issues, saying the BJP-led NDA government was rattled because of AAP's good work.
"The BJP-led central government has issued the notification just because they are rattled by the good work done by the AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) government," Kejriwal said at a press conference in New Delhi.
"Money used to exchange hands with transfers and postings of the officers," he said, adding the reason for issuing the notice was because his government had put an end to it.
"They (the BJP) want to take the power of transfer and posting of officers in Delhi in their hands so that they can deploy their people in Delhi," he said.
Kejriwal accused Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung of not enquiring about development related issues. "But he is concerned about transfer and posting of officers."
"I have no direct fight with the LG as he is just a face... ruled by the PMO," he added.
Kejriwal did not divulge his plans about replying to the notification. "We are examining it (notification). We have sought an opinion from legal experts."
The notification was issued on Thursday, but it came to light on Friday. It said: "Article 239AA inserted by the constitution (sixty ninth amendment act 1991) provides that the UT of Delhi shall be called NCT of Delhi and the administrator thereof shall be designated as Lt. Governor."
The tussle between Jung and the Arvind Kejriwal government started over the appointment of senior bureaucrat Shakuntala Gamlin as the acting chief secretary on May 15.
Kejriwal had accused Gamlin of lobbying for power distribution companies in the national capital.
