Authorities inspect cracks on road between Wadala Depot, Bhakti Park Monorail stations, ask civic body to repair them. MMRDA claims piers are in good condition and that work will start only after monsoon

In order to find a solution to the bloated and uneven surface surrounding the piers of the Monorail between Wadala depot and Bhakti Park station, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) officials, along with senior BMC officers, visited the site last week. It has been decided that the BMC would repair the same.

mid-day was the first report on the issue on April 8 ('Pier pressure destroys road under Mumbai Monorail'). "The area where the problem has occurred comes under the jurisdiction of the BMC as we have already handed over the road to them, and the road was constructed by them only.

We have told them to repair the road and the area surrounding the piers so that people don't have to face inconvenience. After doing a proper inspection, it has also been cleared that all the piers of the Monorail are completely fine and there is no problem to the Monorail alignment because of the bloated portion surrounding some piers," said an MMRDA official, on condition of anonymity.

After the monsoon
The repair work will begin after the monsoon. At present, when on the road below the monorail alignment between Wadala depot and Bhakti Park station, one can see that the area surrounding the piers has risen up. The cracks on the elevated parts on this stretch are clearly visible. An area of about 5-8 feet around each pier has risen and developed cracks.
