A month after the BMTC used social networking and joined hands with a popular online review site to make travelling easier, 72 complaints have been registered against the bus service.
Bangaloreans can now protest against BMTC services while on the go using www.revu.in's latest measure to help improve how the public transport system functions.
Jai Shankar, co-founder, revu.in, said, "Every fortnight, grievances that registered with us through Facebook, Twitter and our website is sent to the BMTC so that they can handle it." He added, "Anyone with a blackberry can instantly upload their comments."
The BMTC, however, recommends that more Bangaloreans take public transport in a bid to reduce the city's carbon footprint. Tomorrow will mark Bus Day, an initiative of the public transport undertakingu00a0 powered by MiD DAY and Radio One.
K S Vishwanath, chief traffic manager (Operations), BMTC, said, "Most people complain that a bus driver should not also be a conductor but it is not economically viable." He added, "By taking the bus, pollution can be reduced along with our carbon foot print. As it is, Bangalore is known for its narrow roads."
For the environment
u00a0H S Sudhira, a researcher with Gubbi Labs in Tumkur, said, "Switching to public transportation would ease the traffic congestion. Automobiles maybe more effective when it comes to travel but it has its pitfalls."
He added, "Taking the bus would be better for the environment but if the BMTC was more efficient people would use the service. They are going to have to fight back hard to get people to use the buses again."
