A 26-year-old BPO employee was molested by a youth near Dhaula Kuan during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

Sources said thatu00a0 the incident occurred at around 1 am when Anupama (name changed) was waiting for her official cab near Satya Niketan bus stand on Ring Road.
"The victim works with Gurgaon based call centre and lives in a rented accommodation in the area. Like every other day, she was waiting for her office cab when the accused, who was in an inebriated condition, reached there. Finding her alone, he allegedly hugged and kissed her. The victim ran away, shouting for help," a police official said.
Hearing her cries, the policemen posted at a picket nearby rushed to the spot. Seeing the cops coming, the accused tried to run away but was chased and nabbed by the cops. He was then arrested on the basis of the report of girl," the official added.
Police said that the accused, identified as Deepak Rawat a resident of sector 7 of R K Puram, was also a call centre employee,. Though DCP (South Delhi,) HGS Dhaliwal denied the incidentu00a0 had taken place, a police source confirmed that an FIR number 27 under section 509 (outraging modesty of a woman) was registered by the police in this connection at Dhaula Kuan police station.

Rapes on rise |
Last year saw a spurt in rape and molestation cases in the city. There were 489 rape incidents as against 459 in 2009. The figure for 2006 was 609, 581 for 2007 and 466 for 2008. There was a rise in molestation cases as well last year - from last year's 532 to 585. While 2008 had witnessed 597 cases, there were 835 such incidents in 2007. The rape per lakh population has shown an increase to 2.8 from last year's 2.65. The figure was 4.16 in 2005 and 3.82 in 2006, the highest in the last decade. Of the persons arrested for rape, 52 were relatives, 65 friends, 222 neighbours and 130 other known persons. In only 20 cases, rapes were committed by strangers. |
