WHAT's ON dropped in at a new restaurant in Baner, and got acquainted with the ancient art of baat cheet Baat Cheet Restuarant at Baner
The new eatery in Baner is aptly named as it does wonders for your social life, if not for your stomach. Considering the amount of time it takes to serve food, customers have no choice but to indulge in conversation to escape boredom. The small eatery is moderately priced and serves both Indian as well as Chinese food.
However, it's not worth the long wait as the food tastes just average.u00a0
Ambience: In terms of du00e9cor, Baat Cheet hardly offers anything new and is simply decorated with plastic plants that hang on the walls and wrought iron furniture. It is divided in two sections u2014 an open space and an enclosed section.
We tried: For starters, we ordered a Chicken Hot and Sour Soup (Rs 35) and Chicken Spring Roll (Rs 65). The order took half an hour to arrive. The soup was tasty and included chopped chicken, capsicum, garlic and carrot pieces. The Chicken Spring Roll was a huge disappointment. It had a filling of chicken, carrot, cabbage, ginger and garlic but since it hadn't been fried properly, it tasted raw.
For the main course, we were about to order the Baat Cheet Special Chicken, but the attendant informed us that the dish was too sweet. Instead, we opted for Chicken Butter Masala (Rs 120), Butter Naan (Rs 18) and Steamed Rice (Rs 40). The main course also took a long time to be served. The Butter Chicken was just average but went well with the Butter Naan, while the rice was soggy.
Service: Some of the tables were not clean and the service was snail-paced.
