A new circular signed by the Chief Secretary may bring an end to the red tapism in government offices. Chief Secretary JK Banthia has issued a circular ordering all state government employees to provide a yes or no answer to any correspondence from the public within three months.
The circular that was issued last week states that any official should provide their reply within 12 weeks or provide a reasonable justification in writing to the public for the delay. Additionally, any bureaucrat who violates the timeframe will face disciplinary action.
Banthia has also asked departmental heads for periodic reviews of the issues and their replies. A separate register will also be maintained to keep a record of the correspondences and their replies. The move comes following the High Court reprimanding the state for its inaction when it came to complaints by the public. u00a0
