Locals claim that the water stays even after it stops raining, as the drainage systems in the area are blocked; a pump kept there hasn't been used

Waterlogging usually plays havoc during the rains in the satellite city. The morning of Monday was especially bad for pedestrians and motorists as the subway near Kharghar station got flooded.

Not clear: In spite of the presence of a pump, the water continues to collect at Kharghar subway

Locals claim that apart from the area being low-lying the reason behind the potholes and puddles is a bad drainage system.u00a0Kharghar resident Ravi Srivastav said, "The roads are well built, but the civic body's laxity in cleaning drains has led to waterlogging."

Srivastav added that the area is also marred with potholes.u00a0Mohan Ninawe, PRO of CIDCO (City and Industrial Developmental Corporation) told MiD DAY, "Our first priority is to remove water from the subway and then ascertain the cause behind the waterlogging. A pump will be assembled to clear the area of water."

When MiD DAY visited the site it found that there was already a pump present in the area, but locals claim that it has never been used. Rajan Kumar Sagoo who works at a fruit shop there, says a pump has been present for a few days. u00a0Sagoo said, "This subway always gets waterlogged during the monsoons inconveniencing motorists and pedestrians."u00a0

Mehvish Mandlik a student of Sterling College, Kharghar, said, "When it rains heavily, dirty water accumulates near the subway. Even when it stops raining it stays collected as the drains are not clean."u00a0
