Pune is turning out to be a haven for foodies with new eateries popping up in the city almost everyday. Food Court at Baner is the latest entrant and dishes both Indian as well as Chinese food, at reasonable rates. At first glance, it looks like any other run-of-the-mill eatery but don't judge a book by its cover. Once you enter, you will be surprised by the quality of the food as well as the neat ambience. However, a word of caution is due the dishes here are very spicy.
Ambience: The eatery is decorated with bamboo sticks, dried flowers and soft yellow lights, which give it a very rustic touch. There are bamboo sections that separate the seating area. Check out the beautiful decorative pieces and paintings on the walls.u00a0
We tried: We started by ordering the Chicken Lung Fung Soup (Rs 50) and followed it up with Hunan Chicken (Rs 110). The soup was served promptly but just tasted average; it was more akin to a hot and sour soup served with beaten eggs. We had to generously add sauces and salt to make it edible. But the Hunan Chicken which was served next was simply delicious. It had medium sized pieces of chicken fried with garlic and spring onions, which were sweet and spicy.
For the main course, we opted for the Chicken Do Pyaaza (Rs 125) along with Butter Naan (Rs 17). The Chicken Do Pyaaza was tasty but very spicy. The curry was a mix of onion pieces and finely chopped garlic, ginger and spring onions. It went well with the Butter Naan.
Service: The attendants were prompt and well-versed with the menu card. The Manager helped us with the menu and every time we had a query, he patiently answered it with a big, infectious smile.
At: Food Court, near Staples, Baner Road.
