The Sunfeast 10k run is all set to kick off tomorrow at 6am. Over 32,000 people are likely to participate in the event. MiD DAY lets you inu00a0 onu00a0 what's on theu00a0 Bangaloreans' minds and some advice from the celebrities and the organising committee.
"This is a coming together of the efforts of government agencies, municipal corporation and, of course, the Procam team who have worked day in and day out for three whole months," says an excited Vivek Singh, managing director, Procam. "Our aim is to inspire Bangaloreans to make fitness a part of their daily regime," he adds.
Since the 10 k run has received a global positioning, it is now more than just a run for the Bangaloreans. Several NGOs are using this event as a platform to raise funds for and awareness about their projects. "Brand ambassadors of the NGOs will participate in the race and help reach out to more likeminded people," says Bharath Kashyap, who will run the marathon for Imagine India.
The response to the marathon has been overwhelming, thanks to some celebrities who have confirmed their participation. Model-cum-actor Deepika Padukone, Milind Soman and golden star Ganesh are among the few who will add to the glamour quotient of the event.
"I am going to participate just to watch Deepika Padukone," saysu00a017-year old Satish Agarwal. Several other Bangaloreans like him are participating just to catch a glimpse of their favourite celebrity.u00a0
Nikhil Chinaapa and international commentator Tim Hutchins will be sitting in the commentary box to add flavour to the run.
Apart from the competitive 10K run, there will be others like the majja run, the wheelchair run and the senior citizens run. Maurice Greene, a sprinting legend from USA, who is the event amabassador for the Sunfest World 20 K says, "It is an honour to just be a part of such a huge event. I hope my presence will inspire and motivate the budding athletes to work harder. "u00a0
Model and actor Milind Soman, also a fitness freak, advises: "My only message to the Bangaloreans is just come and have fun. Enjoy every minute of the running. "
