The city is once again proud to be featured in the Guinness Book of World Records. This time it is a feather in the hat of music lovers.

Vineeth Vincent (22), broke the earlier record of two-and-a-half minutes by 327 beat boxers set at Vienna, Austria in 2009, and established a new one involving 1,246 participants beat boxing on a single stage on February 5, and the results were announced yesterday.

Not only did the team break the old record, but also did so by a huge margin at an event titled 'Can You Say Beat Box', which was held at Christ University.

"Initially, when I heard that an announcement was on Facebook about us breaking the record, I was quite shaky. I am still awaiting an official email and it is the first time a Guinness event has received such response," said Vincent.

Good things coming
A proud Vincent added, "This surely is a beginning to some really good things to come. After the news spread, I immediately started getting calls. I also got in touch with my 15 member core team and we were all quite elated."

Crewmember Antony, who got in touch with all the participants, said that it was difficult for them to contain their excitement. "We were screaming like little girls. The college has been backing us and we've made them proud. When I told my parents, they were excited initially, but then told me to get back to studies," he said.

Vincent informed that beat boxing as a genre, is being seen in a new light by musicians in the city. "Beat boxing will now be taken to the next level and I hope there are more such victories ahead," he concluded.
