Bangalore goes Berserk this weekend

It's been two years since Hard Rock Cafe opened its doors to pub goers of Bangalore and to celebrate the occasion, they've planned a smashing guitar and cutting cake ceremony. So what's so cool you ask? Well, it involves a chainsaw, need we say more?

"We are thrilled our second cafe has completed its second year of operations and are thankful to all Bangaloreans for their continuous support and patronage," says Amit Keswani, VP Sales and Marketing.

DJ Praful, will floor the guests with his retro rock repertoire while they sip a welcome shot. The traditional guitar smash will be done by VJ Danny McGill who will also chainsaw the three-tier birthday cake. Lucky bugger!

Them Cold ''''ers

How many of us even hear of acoustic bands anymore, and when's the last time you heard of an acoustic band paying tribute to the early 90's Seattle grunge sound?

We were definitely all excited when we read the invite and what made it even cooler was that they play covers too! Prepare to be blown away by the sounds of Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Screaming Trees and Pearl Jam, among many others, but don't be to surprised if you see them improvising on the legends.

They've also played for the Bombay Electrik Project and are heavily inspired by great comeback releases of grunge artistes in 2009. That inspiration led to their formation of the present avatar and so here they are Rahul Deshpande, Akshay Deodhar, Anurag Shanker and Rahul Pais as TCF.

A road trip with a purpose

If you're one of those who love the feel of breeze and long journeys, then pack your bags, and get going. Beginning from NICE Road, this bike ride will culminate at Opus at the Creek. It is a charity classic bike rally to celebrate 61 years of India being a Republic.

These bikers will ride to the Baale Mane girl's home to donate essentials required by them. Venetia Ansell from Road Veda who is sponsoring this event says, "Everyone who participates in this event will have to get some of the requirements for the girl's home."

From there, the bikers will head to Opus at the Creek in Whitefield where they will be treated to a performance by the rock band, Solder. That's quite a packed Sunday then, na?

What's your Avatar?

Just kidding! We've seen them on the scene far too many times in far too many avatars, but who's complaining? Catch this band that's been seen and heard and might we add loved already at The Great Indian October Fest (06 and 07), Eastwind Music Festival 08, Independence Rock 07 and then after a unexplained hiatus at Legends Of Rock (Bangalore) and Blue Frog (Mumbai) in September 09.

We caught them at the Blue Frog performance and were we happy or what! With Kishan Balaji on the drums, Jason Zachariah on the keyboard, Narayanan Namboodiripad on vocals, Kenneth Wilson on the bass and Anurag Shanker on the guitar, we're sure if no-one else is excited, at least all Christites in the city surely will be.

Narayan has after all been popularly tagged as the only male vocalist in Bangalore who can give you an orgasm by just singing and I can vouch for that!

A whole new sound

Ten songs played nonstop for one hour and ten minutes. Sounds unbelievable? Well, Demonic Resurrection, a rock band from Mumbai is here this weekend to make this possible.

Bangalore is the first city to experience the sound of their brand new album, Return to Darkness. Essentially playing everything form death metal to folk, the band presents a unique blend of the traditional and modern metal rock.

Also they promise to present music, which is progressive with new styles. "We are performing these songs in Bangalore because of the rock culture here," said Husain, the bas guitarist.

"This city has got the biggest and the craziest audience in India." Inner Sanctum and Abandoned Agony, two Bangalore bands will also accompany them. Demonic Resurrection features Demonstealer and Daniel on the guitars, Husain on the bass, Mephisto on the keyboards and Viru on the drums.

Buon Appetito!

Bangalore's seeing a sudden nip in the air, so this weekend's an apt time to savour the foods (served a-la carte) from over the Alps the regions of Aosta Valley, Liguria, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Veneto and Piedmont at i-t.ALIA.

Come winter season and the people of the North mould their cuisine to the chilly weather as they indulge in rich and hearty soups. Choose from the livronese fish soup and then move on to the risotto alla valdosta, which is risotto cooked with sun dried tomatoes, parmesan cheese and taleggio cheese. Stuffed pasta a popular dish in the North of Italy is a must try at this fest, sensually creamy.
u00a0
Thumbs up to the lasagne of fried vegetables and minced meat and the Ligurian style pasta stuffed with mixed greens. The 11-day fest will also have in store a whole lot of meats to choose from, with beef, veal and duck being the most popular, besides chicken and fish. For dessert try the baked ricotta cheese cake and apple preserve, or the cheese fondue with truffle sauce to round off Italy on your plate.
